6408 Verona Rd – Residential Structure Fire

Early Thursday Morning, Stations 222, 224 & 285 were alerted for a residential structure fire in the 6400-Blk of Verona Rd. 222 Chief arrived on scene, fire showing from the “C” side of the structure, starting to catch exposures, requesting the 2nd alarm. EN-223 & TK-227 on the second alarm. EN-222 arrived on scene, crews stretching lines to the rear of the structure, while 285 secured the plug. TK-227 arrived on scene and laddered the structure and prepared for roof vent. EN-223 crew assisted with fire suppression and overhaul. Fire out, ventilation and overhaul complete, all units returned in service as they pick up. The Penn Hills Fire Marshall is investigating. No injuries were reported.

6560 Leechburg Rd – Beechtree Commons II – Commercial Structure Fire

On Wednesday evening, Stations 223, 226 & 227 were alerted for a possible commercial structure fire, caller reporting smoke on the first floor. EN-223-2 on scene, reporting light smoke evident, evacuation in progress. Command requesting in the next due engine, bringing 222 to the call. Crews from 223 and tk-227 located a burnt 3-phase elevator junction box on the first floor. Crews isolated the power to the elevator then all the power to the building. Rest of the crews and medics assisted in evacuating the building. The structure was ventilated, power was restored and the scene was turned over the Penn Hills Fire Marshall and Maintenance.  All units returned in service as they picked up.

ARB @ Sandy Creek Rd – MVA W/ Injuries & Entrapment

Early Wednesday Morning, Rescue Companies 222 & 223 and Station 225 were  alerted for a motor vehicle accident, caller reporting one vehicle on its side, patient still inside. Police on scene reporting one still trapped. RQ-222 & EN-225 arrived on scene, crews started vehicle stabilization. EN-223-1 arrived on scene and assisted. Crews removed the front windshield to access the patient. The patient was removed safety from the vehicle and was handed over to EMS. Patient was transported to a local trauma center.  Crews returned in service as they picked up.

Firemen Appreciation Day

On Saturday, September 20th, The Rapp Funeral Home in Penn Hills held its Annual Penn Hills and Verona Firemen Appreciation Day. Volunteers and trucks from all the fire departments in Penn Hills and Verona came to the annual event, volunteers even provided a “man downed” situation for the visitors to see. People took bucket rides on Truck 7, while others climbed through apparatus and looked at the tools. We thank Bernadette from the funeral home for holding this event for us over the past year. Thank You!


7605 Saltsburg Rd – Trailer Fire

On Tuesday afternoon, Stations 226, 223, 227 were alerted for a trailer on fire in the parking lot of the Penn Hills Missionary Alliance Church. EN-226 arrived on scene and reported a trailer to a tar truck was on fire.  Units from 223 & 227 assisted extinguishing the fire.  No injuries were reported.

1509 Hunter Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Thursday, shortly before 11:30pm.  Stations 224, 223, 222, 285, 227 were alerted for a residential structure fire.  221 Chief arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire in a detached garage and the main house.  227TK arrived on scene and units pulled two (2) attack lines.  227 Chief held all firefighting efforts to the exterior of the building.  Crews knocked down the bulk of the fire in the garage area.  223EN secured a water supply to 227TK.  224 Chief arrived on scene and assumed incident command.  222 laddered the building.  224, 223, 285 assisted with extinguishment.  No injuries were reported.  The Penn Hills Fire Marshal & the Allegheny County Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.

1521 Universal Rd. Dwelling Fire

Early Thursday morning crews were dispatched to 1521 universal Road for a reported structure fire, PD onscne with a working fire. Crews went defensive and knocked the fire down. During operations 1 FF and a Medic were taken to near by hospital with minor injuries. The fire is said to be suspicious.

341 Golden Gate Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Wednesday evening, Stations 224, 223, 222, 285 were alerted for a possible residential structure fire, caller reporting heavy smoking coming from rear of the structure. Additional calls coming in for the fire, it brought EN-227, EN-225, and TK-221. Chief 221 on scene, reporting working chimney fire. EN-223-1 arrived on scene, crews laddering the structure and extinguishing the chimney fire. EN-224 arrived on scene and crews assisted with savage. Crews checked for extension with none found. Crews returned in service as they picked up.
