Firemen Appreciation Day

On Saturday, September 20th, The Rapp Funeral Home in Penn Hills held its Annual Penn Hills and Verona Firemen Appreciation Day. Volunteers and trucks from all the fire departments in Penn Hills and Verona came to the annual event, volunteers even provided a “man downed” situation for the visitors to see. People took bucket rides on Truck 7, while others climbed through apparatus and looked at the tools. We thank Bernadette from the funeral home for holding this event for us over the past year. Thank You!

 

7605 Saltsburg Rd – Trailer Fire

On Tuesday afternoon, Stations 226, 223, 227 were alerted for a trailer on fire in the parking lot of the Penn Hills Missionary Alliance Church. EN-226 arrived on scene and reported a trailer to a tar truck was on fire.  Units from 223 & 227 assisted extinguishing the fire.  No injuries were reported.

1509 Hunter Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Thursday, shortly before 11:30pm.  Stations 224, 223, 222, 285, 227 were alerted for a residential structure fire.  221 Chief arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire in a detached garage and the main house.  227TK arrived on scene and units pulled two (2) attack lines.  227 Chief held all firefighting efforts to the exterior of the building.  Crews knocked down the bulk of the fire in the garage area.  223EN secured a water supply to 227TK.  224 Chief arrived on scene and assumed incident command.  222 laddered the building.  224, 223, 285 assisted with extinguishment.  No injuries were reported.  The Penn Hills Fire Marshal & the Allegheny County Fire Marshal are investigating the cause of the fire.

341 Golden Gate Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Wednesday evening, Stations 224, 223, 222, 285 were alerted for a possible residential structure fire, caller reporting heavy smoking coming from rear of the structure. Additional calls coming in for the fire, it brought EN-227, EN-225, and TK-221. Chief 221 on scene, reporting working chimney fire. EN-223-1 arrived on scene, crews laddering the structure and extinguishing the chimney fire. EN-224 arrived on scene and crews assisted with savage. Crews checked for extension with none found. Crews returned in service as they picked up.

7555 Saltsburg Rd – Brush Fire

On Monday evening, Stations 226, 223 & 227 were alerted for a possible dumpster on fire, with fire spreading to the hillside. Police on scene reporting dumpster fire with the hill involved. EN-226 arrived on scene and crews started to extinguish. EN & Mini 223 arrived and assisted. Fire out, all united returned in service as they picked up.

2700-Blk Reiter Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Friday evening, Stations 226, 223 & 227 were alerted for a residential structure fire, caller reporting heavy smoke coming from a residence in the 2700-Blk of Reiter Rd. Police on scene, reporting heavy smoke showing. EN-223-2 arrived on scene, crews pulling an 1.5′ attack line, while the other crew secured a hydrant. Crews made entry to the front of the structure, finding fire in the living room. Fire out, TK-227 crew assisted with ventilation and overhaul. Fire out, overhaul complete, all crews returned in service as they picked up. No injuries were reported, Great job by all on scene. The ACFA is investigating.

6633 Saltsburg Rd – Commercial Structure Fire

On Friday, Stations 223, 226, 227 & 222 were alerted for a possible commercial structure fire, caller reporting the basement filling with smoke. Police on scene reporting heavy smoke in the basement. 223 Assistant arrived on scene, confirming smoke and reporting an electrical main that caught fire, causing a power outage to the building. The fire was put out by an extinguisher, requesting fire crews continue, needed for ventilation. Structure ventilated, crews returned in service as they picked up.

580-Blk Guylyn Dr – MVA W/ Fire

On Sunday evening, Stations 226, 227 & 223 were alerted for a two vehicle accident, reported vehicles on fire in the 580-Blk of Guylyn Dr. Police on scene, confirming one vehicle fully involved, second vehicle starting to catch. EN-226 arrived on scene, crews pulled 1 3/4′  hose-line and started fire attack. RQ-227 arrived and assisted. EN-223-1 arrived and stood by at the hydrant. Fire out, all units returned in service as they picked up.

800-Blk Indiana Rd – MVA W/ Entrapment

On Sunday morning, Rescue companies 223 & 222 were alerted for a single vehicle accident, one vehicle into a tree with entrapment. Police on scene, reporting one vehicle on its roof, heavy entrapment. Rescue crews began to arrive on scene, RQ-222 crew began to stabilize the vehicle, while EN-223-1 crews put the rescue tools into service to start extrication. Crews worked for little over an hour to free 1 patient. Patient was removed and taken to local trauma center with unk. injuries. Great job and teamwork by all rescue technicians on scene.

8884 Westwood Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Saturday Night, Stations 221, 222, 225, 227 & 223-RIT were alerted for a residential structure fire, caller reporting heavy smoke and fire visible. Police on scene reporting heavy smoke and fire showing. Command requesting SQ-221 to pick up the first plug, and TK-227 to pick up a second one. Defensive operations went into affect. Crews from 221 deployed multiple landlines, while TK-227 set up for aerial operations. EN-222 arrived and assisted with protecting the exposure of side bravo. RIT-223 arrived and set up in front of the structure. Crews worked for four (4) hours to extinguish the fire. Great job by all units on scene. Four (4) firefighters were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries, all were released and are okay. The Fire Marshall is investigating the cause.
