Crews run twelve (12) calls for the day.

It was an extremely busy day for Penn Hills Firefighters. Station 223 ran a total of twelve (12) calls between the hours of 05:45 and 20:42. Calls ranged from medical assists, to accidents with entrapment, fire alarms and natural gas leaks. Huge thank you to all the volunteers who dedicated their time today to answer these calls.

Newfield Dr @ Milltown Rd – MVA W/ Rollover

While clearing the earlier accident, the tones were dropped for a motor vehicle accident, with rollover in the area of Newfield Dr & Milltown Rd. EN-223-1 & RQ-227 arrived on scene, found one vehicle on its roof, all occupants out of the vehicle. Crews from 223 & 227 stabilized and packaged the patient on a backboard and collar, awaiting the medic’s arrival. Patient transported to a local trauma center, all units returned in service as they picked up.

1300 Hulton Rd – MVA W/ Entrapment

On Wednesday morning, Rescue companies 223,227 & 222 were alerted for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment in front of 1300 Hulton Rd. Medics on scene, confirming one pinned, requesting a door popped. EN-223-1 arrived on scene, crews stabilized the vehicle and put the spreaders into service. RQ-227 arrived on scene and assisted with extraction. Units remained on scene to help direct traffic and close the road due to extreme ice conditions. Vehicles removed by tow, all units returned in service.

165 Sycamore Dr – Chimney Fire

On Monday evening, Stations 227, 222, 223, 226, RIT-196 were alerted for a possible residential structure fire, caller reporting there chimney on fire. TK-227 arrived on scene, reporting working chimney fire. Crews from 223 & 222 were assigned to salvage, while TK-227 crew attacked the fire. Negative extension, fire out, all units returned in service as they picked up.  No injuries were reported.

While En-route, EN-223-1 handled a natural gas leak call in the 200-Blk of Garlow Dr for RQ-227.

250 Alcoma Blvd – Water Condition

On Thursday night, Stations 223, 226 & 227 were alerted for a commercial fire alarm at 250 Alcoma Blvd. EN-223-2 & TK-227 arrived, finding a large water pipe broke in the basement. Crews secured the water to the building. Crews from 223 assisted two wheel-chaired patients to the 4th & 5th floor due to elevator problems. All units returned in service.

240-Blk Rodilin Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Sunday Night, Stations 227, 223, 222, 226, RIT-196 were alerted for a residential structure fire in the 240-Blk of Rodilin Dr. Police on scene reporting working fire, fire showing. EN-227-1 arrived on scene, heavy fire showing from the “A-D” corner, interior crews pulling 1.75′ hand-line. EN-227-1 layed approx. 700-Ft of 5inch, next in truck to pick up the plug. Command requesting a Penn Hills all call for companies to be put on standby. TK-227 arrived on scene and crews started to ladder the structure. EN-223-2 arrived on scene, assisting with securing the electrical box. EN-222-1 arrived, assisted with overhaul, RIT-196 set up in the front yard. Fire out, overhaul complete with no extension to the roof. All crews assisted in repacking the 5’inch supply line. Great job by all on scene, No injuries were reporting. The crews had to battle below freezing temperatures also. The Fire Marshall is investigating the incident.

Leechburg @ Garden Dr – MVA W/ Injuries

On Wednesday evening, Rescue companies 223 & 227 were alerted for a two vehicle accident with injuries. EN-223-1 arrived on scene, all occupants out of the vehicle, medics attending to the patients. Vehicles were removed by tow, fire crews contained the spill. All units returned in service.

908 Hamil Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Sunday Morning, Stations 223, 222 & 224 were alerted for a possible residential structure fire, police on scene from prior police incident, requesting fire department for strong odor of something burning in the basement. CH-223 requested St. 227 for the RIT. EN-223-2 arrived on scene, nothing showing from the exterior. Crews forced entry through the basement door to find paper smoldering in the basement. Interior crews used a water can to put out the rest of the fire. EN-222 assisted with ventilation. All units returned in service as they picked up. No injuries were reported. The ACFA is looking into the incident.

1015 Stotler Rd – Vehicle Fire

On Sunday evening, Stations 226 was alerted for a unknown type fire in the area of 1015 Stotler Rd. Police arrived on scene and found a step van on fire next to a garage, EN-226 requested a structure assignment bringing stations 223 & 227 to the call. EN-226 took a hydrant and used a 1 3/4′ attack line. EN-223-2 & EN-227 assisted and checked the garage for extension. As units were clearing this call, the tones were dropped for a possible commercial structure fire at 250 Alcoma Blvd, caller reporting a electrical box on the exterior smoking. Crews isolated the box without further incident. All units returned in service as they picked up.

1634 Lime Hollow Rd – Residential Structure Fire

On Thursday evening, Stations 227, 222, 223, 225, 196 were alerted for a residential structure fire as a result of a domestic dispute. 227 Chief arrived on scene with moderate smoke showing from the front door. 227EN arrived moments later and crews pulled attack lines. 222EN arrived on scene and secured a water connection to 227EN. 223EN took a second attack line to the rear of the house where they located the bulk of the fire in the basement. 225 checked for extension and hot spots. 196RIT staged in the front driveway. All units worked swiftly to contain the fire. ACFM is investigating the cause of the fire.
