Structure Fire, Unity Center Road

5/3/2019 Station 223 was alerted into Plum Borough to assist with a structure fire in the 800 blk. of Unity Center rd. 223EN was tasked to take a secondary hydrant for additional attack lines and to supply water to 195TK. Crews from 223 remained on scene for 3 hrs.

Vehicle fire

On Thursday, Stations 223, 222 and 196 were alerted to assist companies 227 and 225 on scene of a vehicle fire endangering a structure. Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control resulting in minimal damage to the structure. Due to the vehicles fuel tank melting, crews switched to foam and were able to completely extinguish the fire.

11680 Frankstown Rd – Commercial Structure Fire

On Sunday evening shortly before 11pm, Stations 227 & 225 were alerted for a commercial fire alarm activation at 11680 Frankstown Rd. AC911 received a call from a tenant that he was smoking in bed and caught the mattress on fire. The assignment was upgraded bringing St.222, 223, 196. 227TK arrived on scene with smoke showing. Initial crews deployed 350’ of attack line and were able to reach the fire apartment that was five (5) stories below grade. 227EN secured a water supply to 227TK. Crews from 227 & 225 were able to extinguish the fire. Crews from 222 & 223 assisted with ventilation and evacuation. No one was injured.

200-blk Orchard Dr – Vehicle Rollover Into Creek

On Sunday morning, shortly before 2am Rescue Companies from 227, 223, 222 were alerted for a single vehicle accident with rollover in the 200-blk of Orchard Dr. 227RQ arrived on scene with a single vehicle accident over a hillside into a creek. The operator of the vehicle was assisted out of the creek to PHEMS. The driver was transported to a local hospital with non life threatening injuries. PHPD are investigating the cause of the accident.

Ventilation Practices class

Saturday Dec 12 and  Sunday the 13th, Penn Hills fire companies participated in a Ventilation Practices class. Using the old Penn Hebron school, crews performed various types of ventilation techniques and trench cuts which are a way of stopping a fires progression in large commercial buildings.

 

 

 

 

6659 Saltsburg Rd – Accident w/Entrapment

On Tuesday afternoon, Rescue Companies 223, 222, 227 were alerted for a 2 vehicle accident with entrapment. PHEMS arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment. 227RQ & 223EN arrived on scene. 223 began stabilizing the vehicle while 227 started to remove the drivers side door. 222 arrived and started fluid containment. Crews worked quickly to free the driver, after about 4mins the driver was free and in the care of PHEMS, and was transported to a local trauma center with non life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for about 45mins.
