Vehicle fire

On Thursday, Stations 223, 222 and 196 were alerted to assist companies 227 and 225 on scene of a vehicle fire endangering a structure. Crews worked quickly to bring the fire under control resulting in minimal damage to the structure. Due to the vehicles fuel tank melting, crews switched to foam and were able to completely extinguish the fire.

11680 Frankstown Rd – Commercial Structure Fire

On Sunday evening shortly before 11pm, Stations 227 & 225 were alerted for a commercial fire alarm activation at 11680 Frankstown Rd. AC911 received a call from a tenant that he was smoking in bed and caught the mattress on fire. The assignment was upgraded bringing St.222, 223, 196. 227TK arrived on scene with smoke showing. Initial crews deployed 350’ of attack line and were able to reach the fire apartment that was five (5) stories below grade. 227EN secured a water supply to 227TK. Crews from 227 & 225 were able to extinguish the fire. Crews from 222 & 223 assisted with ventilation and evacuation. No one was injured.

6659 Saltsburg Rd – Accident w/Entrapment

On Tuesday afternoon, Rescue Companies 223, 222, 227 were alerted for a 2 vehicle accident with entrapment. PHEMS arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment. 227RQ & 223EN arrived on scene. 223 began stabilizing the vehicle while 227 started to remove the drivers side door. 222 arrived and started fluid containment. Crews worked quickly to free the driver, after about 4mins the driver was free and in the care of PHEMS, and was transported to a local trauma center with non life threatening injuries. The roadway was closed for about 45mins.

Commercial structure fire: 250 Alcoma on the Green Apts

The North Bessemer VFD would like to give a huge thank you for the help today for the Commercial Structure Fire at 250 Alcoma Blvd (Alcoma on the Green) on the 4th Floor. We would like to thank; Penn Hills Stations 221, 222, 224, 225, 226, 227, Verona 285, Unity 233, Oakmont 216, Monroeville 192, 195, 196 & Westmoreland Vent 112. Medical Units; Penn Hills EMS, Plum EMS, Murrysville Medic One. Penn Hills & Allegheny County Fire Marshall’s. The Salvation Army for assisting residents and all the utility companies. If we forgot you, Sorry! Thank you to every company, volunteer firefighter, standby companies, and civilians that helped us today. There were no firefighter injuries today!!

Busy Christmas Day

On Christmas Day, it was a busy day for all the volunteers all over Penn Hills. The North Bessemer VFD responded to a total of 6 calls throughout the day.

381 Whittier Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Tuesday night, Companies 227, 222, 223, 226 & RIT-196 were alerted for a possible basement fire, caller reporting the basement is starting to fill with smoke. EMS on scene, reporting smoking showing, all occupants out of the structure.  227 Asst arrived on scene, requesting first engine in to take the plug and lay in. EN-227 arrived on scene, laying 500′ feet of 5′ inch and crews pulling a 1 3/4 hand line. Interior crews reporting broken water pipe, water hitting the breaker box. Crews from 223 & 222 secured the power, and starting pulling siding to expose the fire. RIT-196 set-up in the front of the structure. Fire out, overhaul and ventilation complete, all units returned in service as they picked up.
