6600 Leechburg Rd – Commercial Structure Fire

On Saturday, June 8 @ 12:35, Stations 223,227 & 226 were alerted for a Commercial Structure Fire at 6600 Leechburg Rd, the old railroad building. CH-223 Arrived on scene, confirmed working fire, requesting Tankers 235 & 195 to the scene due to the remote location. EN-223-2 on scene, crewing pulling 1.5′ attack line and advancing into the fire. EN-227 arrived on scene, crews pulled a second hand line and assisted with fire suppression. Interior crews reported bulk of the fire contained, Command disregarding the tankers. Fire out, crews performed overhaul and hit the hot spots. Units remained on scene for 1 hour. The scene was turned over to the Allegheny County Fire Marshall, All units returned in service as they picked up. No injuries were reported.

6600 Leechburg Rd – Vehicle Fire

On Tuesday evening, Stations 223,222,226 & 227 were alerted for a possible commercial structure fire behind the PH DPW, Police on scene reporting heavy black smoking showing from the roof. CH-223 arrived on scene, confirmed a working car fire inside an abandon old railroad turnaround building. EN-223-2 arrived on scene, crews pulling an 1.5′ attack line and attacking the car fire. TK-227 & EN-223-1 on scene assisted. All other units were canceled and returned in service. Crews returned in service as they picked up. No injuries were reported.

2013 Memorial Day Parade

On Monday May 27, Station 223 participated in Penn Hills Annual Memorial Day Parade. Crews spent the morning washing and waxing the trucks for the parade. EN-223-1, EN-223-2, and SV-223 went through the parade. Thanks to the Veterans who made this day possible.

2013 Open House

On May 18, 2013 The North Bessemer VFD held its annual Open House. We had a great turn out by the community and we hope everyone learned something about fire safety and how the fire department operates. We hope to see everyone next time.

158 Crescent Gardens Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Monday evening shortly before 7:00 pm, Stations 226, 227, 223 were alerted for smoke and flames coming from the rear of a house on Crescent Gardens Dr.  227TK & 227EN went enroute simultaneously.  227TK arrived on scene with smoke and flames.  227EN secured a water supply and connected to 227TK.  Crews from 227 and 223 extinguished the fire.  Fire was contained to the room of origin.  No injuries were reported. The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

Brush Fire – Thompson Run/Frey Rd

On April 23, at 15:17 Stations 226,223 & 227 were alerted for a possible brush fire along the railroad tracks on Thompson Run Rd in Penn Hills. Railroad workers reporting a brush fire near the train tracks by the old cement plant on Thompson Run. EN-226 confirmed a brush fire expanding over a section along the railroad tracks. EN-223-2 and Mini-223 accessed the tracks and begin to extinguish the fire. EN-227 on scene to assist. Fire out, command returned all units in service.

11979 Frankstown Rd – Commercial Structure Fire

On Saturday afternoon stations 227, 223, 222, 226, 196 were alerted for a possible commercial structure fire on the sixth (6) floor of Penn Towers Apartment Building.  Truck 227 arrived on scene and crews quickly discovered a sixth floor apartment on fire.  227TK started a primary search.  Search crews were slowed by large amounts of trash and debris in the apartment.  Crews were able to find the apartment resident and evacuate them to the stairwells and transferred patient care to PH EMS.  223EN secured a water supply and connected to the stand pipe.  All units assisted with extinguishment and ventilation.  All units did a fantastic job.  Two (2) patients were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injures.  ACFM is investigating the cause.

28 N Joslyn Dr – Brush Fire

On Tuesday evening, at 17:05, Stations 226, 227 & 223 were alerted for a brush fire in the area of 28 N. Joslyn Dr in Penn Hills. EN-226 & EN-227 in the area, requesting Mini-223 & EN-223-2 access this fire from Guylyn Dr.  Crews from 223 located the fire and began extinguishing the fire with brush brooms and water cans. Crews from 226 & 227 Assisted. Fire out, All crews returned in service. No injuries were reported.

732 Valemont Dr – Residential Structure Fire

On Tuesday morning, at 08:55, Stations 224,223 & 222 were alerted for a residential structure fire at 732 Valemont Dr in Penn Hills. Multiple calls to ACES-911 for a working structure fire, caller reporting multiple containers of R-22 freon in the garage exploding. Police on scene confirming working structure fire. EN-222 & EN-223-2 arrived on scene, crews pulling 2.5″ line and going to work in the rear. Command requesting next due alarm, bringing EN-226 & TK-227 to the scene. TK-227 arrived on scene, crews laddering the structure and venting the roof. Fire out, overhaul performed, crews remained on scene for 2 hours. Scene was turned over to the ACFM. No Injuries were reported.
